I don’t think it’s indicative of anything meaningful, but it is sort of fascinating how frequently we assume certain experiences are culture/demographic-specific when there’s no reason it would be, you just naturally assumed your ethnicity was the only one saving grocery bags, that women don’t know what it’s like to imagine single handedly stopping an imaginary robbery while waiting in line, that northerners don’t know about dipping fries in a Wendy’s milkshake. Even when shown evidence to the contrary, you’ll see people dig their heels in further for what are mostly benign, simple, or non-issues, insisting no you’re wrong, my group must have taught you that, or no no we do a special way, nothing like your kind, it’s totally different, as if this is a stronghold and you lose ground if you accept that this is probably just a thing people do.
It’s rarely a big deal but I always find it funny how much people will resist the idea that we’re all more alike then we are different

Fun thing when you start getting a lot of international friends/partners is that you realize half the thing you thought was “your culture” is very universal, and half the thing you thought was universal turns out only people in a five mile radius ever heard of.
Sometimes things are really suited to being done. Those cookie tins make GREAT sewing-supply storage, and people recognize that with great regularity all over the place.

I really believe there’s some sort of “emperor’s new clothes” phenomenon happening with Gen Z discoursers where they’re too afraid to question the logic of some of the discourse being thrown at them for fear of appearing to be unwoke so they just blindly parrot it not to be excluded by their peers
not just a Gen Z thing, like that’s a valid criticism of tumblr few years back, and I’m not ashamed to admit it sucked me in too. people can say whatever shit they want as long as they use the right vocabulary and an agressive tone that just implies that disagreement is out of the question. it sinks in because you will get similar messages about legitimate issues and sometimes from the same people.
People who act aggressive and negative as fuck and then when you’re like “hey can you stop” they’re like “I’m going through some stuff 🥺🥺🥺” like damn dude that’s crazy me too - for example right now I’m going through YOUR behavior.

If you want to read an academic article that’s behind a paywall just email the author and ask politely if they will send you the article. Most academics will be thrilled that you want to read their work and will gladly send it to you.

I’d been thinking about this concept since the grad finale but I didn’t know how to draw it. So I just. let the idea chill in my brain until I could get close as I could to the desired affect. If I get more time to practice, I would like to circle back around to this and clean it up.
